| Omega has been around for almost as long as the Rolling Stones. On September the 23rd 1962 the band played its first concert at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, the founding members singer Janos "Mecky" Kobor and keyboarder Laszlo "Laci" Benkö having had linked their school bands to start a new project. Bassist Tamas "Misi" Mihaly joined the group in 1967, followed by guitarist György "Elefant" Molnar in 1968. Drummer Ferenc "Ciki" Debreceni completed the formation in 1971. The rarity "Omega - Red Star from Hungary" emerged from an early recording in England: Singer Janos Kobor had to leave to take his final exams and let bassist Mihaly do the vocals. [...more...]
