| Amerykański Dream Theater wyniósł progresywny metal na szczyty popularności. Między innymi dzięki tak wspaniałym albumom, jak dziesiąty w dorobku "Black Clouds & Silver Linings"! Krążek dotarł do szóstego miejsca na liście "Billboardu", a w Polsce radził sobie jeszcze lepiej wspinając się na pozycję czwartą na OLIS-ie. Niesamowitą okładkę towarzyszącą płycie zaprojektował Hugh Syme (m.in. Rush, Iron Maiden). Produkcją zajęli się jak zwykle perkusista Mike Portnoy oraz gitarzysta John Petrucci, a za miks odpowiadał znany ze współpracy z Rush Paul Northfield.
